USB Clock source?

As you know, the USB on the CX II series only works when the main clock is set to 288MHz, which implies that the USB IC gets its clock from the main clock source.
That had me thinking: could we change the main clock to 576MHz (2x288MHz), then divide the USB IC clock by 2, to make USB work at higher clock speeds? That would make some things much better, e.g. we could have Linux running at 576MHz with peripherals.
