I am able to open up the scratch pad (or open a new calculator page) on image documents I create with the mViewer GX Creator (lua for nspire cx), but I am not able to access menu within scratchpad? Is there any way to get around this. For example if I am on an image document and want to open scratcphad and do menu>3>3 (algebra expand) on something that is not possible for me.

you can't. you need to close your document.
