The Earth Summit (1992): The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), also known as the 'Earth Summit, was held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the first Human Environment Conference in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1972, The primary objective of the Rio 'Earth Summit' was to produce a broad agenda and a new blueprint for international action on environmental and development issues that would help guide international cooperation and development policy in the twenty-first century Agenda 21: Four Dimensions Social and Economic Dimensions are directed toward combating poverty, especially in developing countries, changing consumption patterns, promoting health, achieving a more sustainable population, and sustainable settlement in decision making. Conservation and Management of Resources for Development includes atmospheric protection, combating deforestation, protecting fragile environments, conservation of biological diversity (biodiversity), control of pollution and the management of biotechnology, and radioactive wastes. Strengthening the Role of Major Groups includes the roles of children and youth, women, NGOs, local authorities, business and industry, and workers; and strengthening the role of indigenous peoples, their communities, and farmers. Means of Implementation includes science, technology transfer, education international institutions, and financial mechanisms. Millennium Development Goals (2000) Introduction: The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were established at the Millennium Summit of the United Nations in 2000 . These goals were formulated as part of the United Nations Millennium Declaration and aimed to address global challenges, particularly in developing countries. They were inspired by the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) international development goals outlined in the "Shaping the 21st Century Strategy." Goals: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger: Halve the proportion of people living on less than $1.25 a day. Achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all, including women and young people. Halve the proportion of people suffering from hunger. Achieve Universal Primary Education: Ensure that all children, boys and girls alike, complete a full course of primary schooling. Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women: Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education, preferably by 2005, and in all levels of education no later than 2015. Reduce Child Mortality: Reduce by two-thirds the under-five mortality rate. Improve Maternal Health: Reduce by three-quarters the maternal mortality ratio. Achieve universal access to reproductive health. Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and Other Diseases: Halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS. Halt and reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases. Ensure Environmental Sustainability: Integrate sustainable development principles into national policies. Halve the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. Achieve a significant improvement in the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers by 2020. Develop a Global Partnership for Development: Address the special needs of least developed countries, including debt relief and market access. Provide access to affordable essential drugs. Make available new technologies, particularly in information and communications. They laid the groundwork for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) , introduced in 2015 , which expanded and built upon the MDGs achievements and challenges . European Green Deal (2019): Aims for EU climate neutrality by 2050: Encompasses energy, transport, agriculture, and finance.
