Not sure if this is what you did but if you run prgmADVSPEED through Cesium, Cesium will reset the wait states back to 4 when you quit. I recommend running the program using ASMHOOK.
I've done some more thorough testing and found some strange results I'm stunned I never noticed before.
I updated my revision pre-A to OS 5.8.1 then ran ASMHOOK using Cesium. Then I ran prgmADVSPEED from the program menu.
If I set the wait states to 1 then quit the program, then immediately re-open the program, I can see the wait states are still at 1. I can also visually verify the calculator is faster so I know prgmADVSPEED and its subprograms are working.
However, I discovered instances where the calculator will reset the wait states back to 4 on its own. For example, if you quit the graph screen by pressing [clear], the wait states get reset back to 4. However, if you quit the graph screen by pressing [2nd] then [mode], the wait states don't get reset. I also saw this behavior on the [mode] menu, and the about screen.
I verified this behavior on OS 5.8.1, 5.4.1, 5.3.0, and 5.0.0 which means this behavior has always been present, I just never noticed it. Please let me know if you did different steps and still got your wait states reset back to 4!

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I used ADVSPEED through Cesium.
Maybe last time I used ASMHOOK.
