I'm not sure if this is the challenge of this part of the contest, but I am having trouble getting the balloon to go in the direction I want. I don't exactly even know what each argument for vol_modifier() does, so an explanation of that would be welcome as well. I initially started out kind of guessing my arguments, and I eventually got the line to go where I want. but when I added in a new vol_modifier(), it entirely messed up my first line. After that, I tried Pavel's GUI, but I couldn't get the line to even go where I wanted in the first place. Any help with either of my two problems would be welcome. Thanks!

Understanding the function of the three parameters is indeed part of the challenge, which is why they are not given, well I think. By dint of trying, starting over, analyzing, we end up understanding.Your progress will not be linear.

From 14,000 to 5,000jump (...) 4000 to 800 (...) 800 to 400 and final jump ...

The post on Planète Casio is a bit more helpful about the role of the parameters, so I think it is only fair that I translate it here.

The balloon has 2 controls. The first one regulates the amount of gas being burned, which influences vertical speed in the cave. The second seems to change the gas composition, which warps the balloon. Once the controls are input on the command board, the balloon flies itself.

Here is my hint: try different values of the first parameter with a long time (third parameter).

Petite question pour les participants et lecteurs.
Je vous avais dit que l'on vous tiendrait au courant pour les lots, et désolé pas d'avancée du côté de HP.

Par contre, après plusieurs échanges Jarrety serait pour sa part prêt à faire un geste conséquent dans une certaine autre marque que vous aimez bien.

Donc la question, préférez-vous :

• Que l'on rajoute 1 lot supplémentaire avec calculatrice à ce défi ?
  Sachant que comme c'est une modification conséquente de dotation il me semblerait normal de la porter au règlement et de retarder la date limite d'au moins 1 semaine, afin que tout-le-monde ait des chances d'en prendre connaissance et d'agit en conséquence.
• Ou bien que l'on cloture ce 2^ème défi ce dimanche soir comme prévu, mais donc sans la calculatrice supplémentaire de Jarrety ?

La solution qui consiste à ajouter le nouveau lot au troisième défi, qui n'a pas encore débuté me semble-t-il, n'est pas envisageable ? C'est une façon de contourner les problèmes respectifs des deux solutions précédentes, en laissant tout le monde au courant des mêmes infos tout en faisant honneur à ce nouveau lot ?

Sauf si bien sûr la marque en question est Symbolibre, auquel cas il faut d'urgence l'ajouter au défi en cours.
